Our congratulations to Norberto “Norvie” Manigbas (Metamorphosis ’79) and Cristina “Cristy” Madamba-Bajet (Innovation Batch ’71) who were conferred the rank of “Scientist” by the Philippine Scientific Career Council on June 30, 2014 at a ceremony held at Eastwood Richmonde Hotel in Manila.

Norvie and Cristy are both productive research scientists in their respective scientific fields. Norvie is a plant breeder and crop physiologist at the Philippine Rice Research Insitute (PhilRice). He is recognized by his publications and pioneering work in rice plant breeding. Cristy is a research scientist at the National Crop Protection Center, University of the Philippines Los Baños. She is considered an expert in pesticide chemistry and toxicology and her research work and publications have important implications on environmental safety.

The conferment of Scientist rank is administered by the Department of Science and Technology. It is conferred “to highly qualified and productive scientific personnel, for the benefit of incentives, rewards and career progression.”
