Romy Huelgas passed away at 78

It is with profound sadness to announce the passing of Vrod Romeo Huelgas (Original ’62) on January 19, 2019. Considered as the father of the UP Varrons, Romy was one of the founding members of the organization. He was certainly one of the strongest advocates in every way possible to advance the organization’s drive for academic excellence and for unselfish service to the university and community.

To honor and celebrate Romy’s life, a necrological service was held by members of the UP Varrons on January 26 at St. Therese Church at University of the Philippines Los Banos, Laguna. The eulogy was given by the Vrod Higino Ables, an honorary member who served as the first organization adviser in 1962. Tributes were also given by some of the elder members during the service. The funeral was held at the same day following the service.
