On August 7, 2012, Saturnina “Nina” Halos (Batch ’64) was one of the honorees during the 10th Anniversary of the passing of the Department of Agriculture Administrative Order No. 8 (AO8) that paved the way for the commercialization of genetically modified (GM) crops in the Philippines. The celebration was held at the Manila Diamond Hotel.
Nina was one of the people who put together AO 8 and is instrumental in its implementation.
The full citation reads:
“For your unfailing support to establish and strengthen the regulatory system for biotech crops in the Philippines under D.A. AO no. 8; for your unselfish efforts to train and update our biosafety regulators in government, academe and science community; for your unparalleled commitment for the safe and responsible use of modern biotechnology in the country – the success we are joyfully celebrating today will not be possible without our dear Dr. Nina Halos.”
