Three distinguished Varrons were honored on April 22-25 during the 2009 Alumni Homecoming in the College of Forestry, University of the Philippines Los Baños. Joey Austria (Montreal ’76), Juliet Abellar-Anarna (Monstreal ’76), and Mike Marave (Skylove ’73) were given the Most Distinguished Alumni Award in the areas of Community Service, Extension, and International Service, respectively. Ted Villanueva (Flood Victims ’72) received the award on behalf of Mike. Manny Bonita (Magnificent Seven ’67) was the guest speaker during the event.

  • Forester Julieta Abellar-Anarna (Montreal ’76) – UPLB’s outstanding extensionist for 2009
  • Dr. Portia Gamboa-Lapitan (Friends ’72) and her team [including Forester Rebecca Eleazar-Mariano (Friends ’72)] involved in the Dampalit Agroforestry Program – UPLB’s outstanding extension program
  • Engr. Teodulfo Delgado (Honorary Member ’02) – UPLB’s Outstanding Administrative Personnel – Supervisory Category
  • Prof. Teresita Harina-Borromeo (Rodeo ’74) – UPLBCA’s Outstanding Teacher

Aymeeh in the midst of snowWill freeze just for graduate school!!!

Imelda “Aymeeh” Diaz-Mendoza (Thorn Among the Roses ’84) has recently started her master’s studies in Environmental Science at the Institute for Water Education at UNESCO in Delft, The Netherlands. Out of more than 3,000 applicants from 55 countries, Aymeeh is one of the 170 students (three coming from the Philippines) who were selected to receive financial support from the Netherlands Fellowship Program under NUFFIC (the Netherlands Organization for International Cooperation in Higher Education). She is on sabbatical from the Natural Resources Development Corp. until 2010.
