three lives and a thousand fireflieshe dotes on
furry
cats
with very
fancy
names

she bakes the
sweetest cakes
the macaroons
and the
rainbowed
fruitcakes

he drives around
the
still lake
on a
moonless
night

he argues
against his
own
argument
canceling both
views
out

she keeps
the phone forever
ringing
and sighs:
it’s mother
again!

at the basement
he holds on
to his sanity
amid the crowds
that have lost
theirs

one night
as the sky turned
leaden
as they sat
in separate solitude
under the
huge acacia tree
a thousand
fireflies descended
upon their
heads
and
never
left
