Norvie receives the award from Philippine President Duterte.

Congratulations to vrod Norvie Manigbas (Metamorphosis ’79) who is one of the recipients of the Presidential Lingkod Bayan Award. Norvie is recognized “for his deligence and tenacity in developing the first series of heat-tolerant rice varieties” in the Philippines. The results of his pioneering work are expected to alleviate the economic conditions of farmers by providing them with high-yielding rice varieties despite the negative effects of climate change.

The award was personally given by Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte in a ceremony held on September 27, 2018 at the Malacanan Palace.

Norvie is a Chief Science Specialist (Scientist I) at the Philippine Rice Research Institute in Munoz, Nueva Ecija.
