In the age of electronic publishing, giving this page a name like \u201cThe Last Page\u201d may seem like an oxymoron considering that there is no such thing as the last page essentially because \u201ceverything is linked and interconnected.\u201d You don’t think so? If you disagree conceptually, that is a separate topic and you may have a shot on that in the next issue.<\/p>\n

Ang buhay sa<\/em> UP Varrons\u00a0ay talagang puno ng saya. Naaalala mo ba noong mga<\/em>freshmen, sophomores, juniors, seniors and ‘High Landers’\u00a0tayo<\/em>? Between academics and activism, we also found time to insert ‘achoo-choo-choo,’ ‘actingan,’ and ‘aaeeeiii” in our Varrons alphabet.\u00a0Itong page na ito ay para sa mga jokes at nakakatawang mga pangyayari sa ating<\/em> Varrons life. We dare you to add to them.<\/p>\n

Baygon Days<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Makoy\"

Makoy<\/p><\/div>\n

Makoy (Manolo de Lim, Ikatlong Bahagi ’78) decided to spray his bed mattress with Baygon to get rid of bedbugs.\u00a0 Then he went to his class.\u00a0 Unfortunately, his professor was absent.\u00a0 He decided to go back to the dorm and totally forgot all about his spraying frenzy.\u00a0 He slept.\u00a0 Later, his brother entered the room.\u00a0 Lo and behold! The sleeping Makoy was frothing in the mouth!\u00a0 Makoy was confined for several days in the infirmary. \u00a0He has not frothed in the mouth since.<\/p>\n

Enter the Baboy<\/span><\/p>\n

Ted (Thadeus Jimenez), Leo (Leo Mendoza), and Abring (Gabriel San Diego), all members of the First\u00a0 Quarter Strom ’78, were taking the Animal Science class of Dr. Arga\u00f1osa.\u00a0 At that time, Leo and Abring were also acting in a play and the two were also the group mates of Ted in the class.<\/p>\n

Ted<\/p><\/div>\n

The three were assigned to watch over a sow that was about to give birth.\u00a0 In their haste to attend rehearsals, they decided to speed up the process, so to speak, by giving the sow a good kick.\u00a0 Shortly thereafter, the sow gave birth to 10 piglets.\u00a0 They left, feeling elated the sow gave birth without a hitch.\u00a0 The next day, Arga\u00f1osa asked them what happened to their sow. \u00a0They all said, “Nanganak na sir<\/em>.”\u00a0 Arga\u00f1osa asked them how many and they said 10.\u00a0 To which Arganosa replied, “Talaga? Sigurado kayo<\/em>?”<\/p>\n

Leo<\/p><\/div>\n

Feeling flustered and uneasy, they insisted, “10\u00a0po<\/em> sir.”\u00a0 Then Arga\u00f1osa bellowed, “Patay lahat ng biik niyo, dinaganan ng nanay<\/em>!”\u00a0 Poor Ted.\u00a0 He was aiming for a grade of 1.0 in that class that semester.<\/p>\n

Baka-Bakahan<\/span><\/p>\n

The brods and sis were spending a quiet morning with some neophytes in the Gonzales apartment (the de facto tambayan house of UP Varrons Aggie chapter during the mid-70s), where Pola (Flora Credo-deGuzman, Interaksyon ’75) and Tess (Teresita Harina-Borromeo, Rodeo ’74) were residing.\u00a0 Sis Pola was sorting mung beans for her research and talk drifted to the tiny insects called\u00a0baka-bakahan<\/em>.\u00a0One neophyte asked, “Bakit ang tawag sa kanila baka-bakahan<\/em>?”\u00a0 “Kasi<\/em>,” Aggie chapter Grand Varron Aristides Sarmiento (Humane Batch ’74) said, “meron silang rancho-ranchohan<\/em>!”<\/p>\n
